I chose From Grimm’s to Disney as my first year seminar because throughout my years in school, I’ve always been fascinated with the concept of fairy tales and the thought of going more into depth with them excites me. Back in my high school seminar class, I read a few of the Grimm fairy tales, and psychoanalyzed them, so I hope to do the same thing in this class as well, exploring with more stories. I am also looking forward to learning more about the history of the Grimm brothers, seeing which events in their life led up to them establishing their legacy. My favorite Grimm fairy tale is Snow White because of the extremely demented differences. There’s necrophilia, torture, and even pedophilia, and I just find it astonishing how much the Disney version has been watered down.
